"Plate Load" Your Gripper. Grippers: love em or leave em. Most guys cant leave them alone, and naturally, once the bug bites, you want to move up the ladder because even if getting certified on a No. 3 or No. 4 Captains of Crush Gripper isnt for everyone, the satisfaction of making progress is within everyones grasp.
In the early 1990s, as we promoted grip training and offered our grippers, we developed and pushed the idea that effective gripper training should follow the same general principles of effective barbell training. Within a few years, John Brookfield became a leading innovator, contributing many new ideas with his unparalleled ingenuity. Next, Joe Kinney introduced the idea of negatives and forcing progress with brutal work loads, and the Holle brothers showed us what clear thinking and constructive attitudes could accomplish. Now, we have developed another new tool, one that will revolutionize gripper training: the Hand Gripper Helper.
No more need to regress to a fixed-weight mentality, or to spend a minor fortune buying a pile of grippers that overlap in strength with one another, or to "conquer" a tougher gripper by adopting a deeper and deeper set. Heres a way to take your favorite trusty gripper and ramp up its horsepower, bridging the gap between, for example, a No. 2 and a No. 3 Captains of Crush Gripper.
Heres how the system works. Lets say that you can do 10 or 12 reps with a No. 1 gripper, and you have your sights set on closing the No. 2. Slap a Hand Gripper Helper on top of your trusty No. 1, ramping up its load about 10 kg (22 lb.)--the boost in the training intensity will bring you down to the peak power-producing range. In other words, youll be training more effectively for gaining strength, and before too long, the sound youll hear is the grinding of your No. 2s handles.
Wow, whod have thought of this: progressive overload for your grippers. Hand Gripper Helpers--your ticket to gaining gripper glory. (Gripper shown not included.)
